Scaling Up Locally Led and Gender Responsive Climate Action in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, October 15, 2024

The National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development (NCDDS) Secretariat in collaboration with the World Bank Cambodia will hold an important event on October 18, 2024, to discuss the scaling up of locally led and gender-responsive climate action in Cambodia.

The event will be jointly chaired by H.E. Chan Sothea, Secretary of State​, Ministry of Interior and Head of NCDDS, and Mr. Ingo Wiederhofer, World Bank Social Development Practice Manager for Cambodia. Following the introductory session, Abidah Billah Setyowati, World Bank Senior Social Development Specialist, will present key findings from two reports highlighting the importance of integrating gender-responsive approaches in climate action.

A panel discussion featuring prominent voices from the Ministry of Environment, NCDDS, civil society, and development partners will provide insights into local initiatives driving Cambodia’s climate resilience efforts. Speakers will include H.E. Dr. , Secretary of State, Ministry of Environment, and Ms. Thary Vorn, CEO of SudRAIN, among others. The panel will be moderated by Susan Shen, Advisor World Bank Social Development for Cambodia.

The event will be concluded by H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women Affairs.

The event will provide a platform for stakeholders to explore collaborative efforts towards climate resilience, emphasizing gender equality and local leadership.

The event will take place at Novotel Hotel and will be followed by a networking lunch.
